Enter our FABulous Design a Program Cover Competition!

Hello students! The FCA Griffins Fine Arts Booster Club is holding a competition to design the cover of the Spring Concert Program! The competition is open to all FCA Frisco Middle and High School students, 6th through 9th grade.

There will be 600 concert programs printed. So your design could be gracing the covers of our programs! Below you will find all the information about the competition and how to enter.

The theme for the Spring Concert is FABulous Composers. The 6th through 9th grade band and orchestra students will be playing music by composers whose work Mr. Peart and Mr. Sprouls consider to be absolutely FABulous!

Featured composers include Johann Sebastian Bach, Henry Purcell, Johannes Brahms, Georg Philipp Telemann, Pyotr IlyichTchaikovsky, Percy Grainger, Hector Berlioz and Ludvig van Beethoven.
 

Competition submissions must be drawings that represent either the theme of FABulous Composers and/or drawings that tie into the general theme of the FCA band and orchestra concerts. Submissions must be original designs that are not copyrighted and should not include any elements of third party works. Submissions should also not include clip art. Submissions must be black and white drawn images.

Winning designs will be used as program covers. The program cover will be printed on letter sized paper, folded in half in landscape format. So your design must be drawn on paper that measures 11 inches in total width and 8.5 inches in total depth. As the paper and your design will be folded in half, the right hand side of the paper and your design will form the front cover, measuring 5.5 inches in width and 8.5 inches in depth. The left hand side of your design will form the back cover of the program with the same 5.5 inch wide by 8.5 inch deep measurements. You can create two designs, one for the front cover and one for the back. Or create one continuous design. But if you choose the second option the design MUST work as a front and back cover when folded. The front cover design must incorporate the words “FABulous Composers”. Be as creative as you wish about how you incorporate these words.

Drawing templates for further guidance along with letter sized white card stock paper on which to draw your designs if you so choose are available from Mr. Longoria and will be provided upon request to students in art class. For further guidance an example of a program cover, with the front cover design on the right hand side and the back cover design on the left, is provided below.

The deadline for competition submissions is the close of the school day on Friday, February 28th. Please submit all competition entries to Mr. Longoria. Student names must be written clearly on the back of competition entries.

Our judges for the competition will be Ms. Melanie Sharpless our Headmaster and Ms. Laine Koons, Assistant Headmaster Grades 5 to 9. So come on Griffins, get drawing!!!
