FCA Frisco HS Participation in U.S. Congressional Art Competition!

U.S. CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION

Each Spring, the U.S. Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide High School visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent across the nation and within each congressional district. Since the competition began in 1982 more than 650,000 High School students have participated.

This year FCA Frisco is participating in the competition through the office of representative Michael Burgess. All FCA Frisco High School students currently enrolled in Art I, II or III are eligible to enter.

There are a number of awards determined each year by each Congressional office. A prestigious guest art jurist will select a Grand Prize winner and a First Prize winner for the district. The Grand Prize winning entry will be displayed for an entire year in the U.S. Capitol. The First Prize winning entry will be displayed in Congressman Burgess’ Lake Dallas District office for one year.

The 2022 student entries will be posted in a virtual gallery on Congressman Burgess’ website and the public are invited to vote on their favorite artwork. The top vote recipient and “Texas Choice” winning entry will also be displayed in Congressman Burgess’ office for one year.

The guest jurist will also select one “Best of School” winner from each school participating in the competition and additionally determines “Juror’s Choice Awards” based on the jurist’s appraisal of artwork that is deemed to have a high level of artistic merit and a high execution ranking.

ALL students participating in the competition receive a “Certificate of Congressional Recognition”.

If you would like to enter the competition, you must submit your proposed entry to Mr. Longoria by Friday, March 18th. All FCA Frisco student entries will be submitted digitally to Congressman Burgess’ office together with the required entry form which the student, a parent or legal guardan and Mr. Longoria must all sign (forms will be distributed to students whose art work is approved for submission).

A summary of the competition rules is provided below. Please read these rules carefully before submitting proposed art work to Mr. Longoria to ensure that your art work meets these guidelines.

Competition Guidelines:

Art work must be two dimensional, no larger than 22 inches high and 22 inches wide and unframed.

Accepted mediums are paintings, drawings, collages, prints, mixed media, computer-generated art & photographs.

Each entry must be original in concept,  design and execution and may not violate U.S. copyright laws.

Art work must be the creation of a single student, students may not collaborate on an entry.

FCA Frisco Art T-Shirts On Sale Now!

Announcing the launch of our very first Art Department T-Shirts! This wonderful design was created by 8th Grader Emmery Sonne.

All profits from the sale of our FABulous T-shirts will go towards purchasing much needed art department supplies.

Thanks to all of our FABulous FCA Frisco families we raised $1,010 at the Fall Festival where our amazing art department staff and students demonstrated their face painting skills for our students. That money was spent on much needed initial supplies of acrylic paints for our Middle and High School students - so our students will get to work with acrylic paints for the first time at school! Our art teachers Mr. Longoria and Miss De Leon were absolutely thrilled!

High quality acrylic and oil paints are very expensive - our art departments need more paints and paint supplies! In addition, storage facilities are limited - we want to help provide the materials to create more storage and much needed drying racks!

So, please support our fundraiser and purchase a shirt.

The art T-shirts can be worn on spirit and other official dress down days and we plan on having a special art appreciation day next Semester when students can show their pride in our amazing art department and wear their shirts!

Simply visit our products page to place your order and thank you for supporting fine arts at FCA Frisco!

Shirts are on sale until Monday January 10th!
