FCA Frisco Support for Frisco Fastpacs High Five Volunteer Program
Frisco Fastpacs mission is to ensure no child in Frisco has to endure hunger when school is not in session. Every week throughout the school year they deliver individual pre-packed meal bags of non-perishable food to all 72 Frisco ISD schools and ordinarily support over 1,000 students. Each bag delivered contains seven meals to ensure children do not go hungry over the weekend. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic they are doing even more – currently serving over 1,200 students and they continue to take new enrollments as the number of families needing their support grows.
If your family is able to help in these challenging times with food or monetary donations, they will be very gratefully received. More information about current requirements and how to donate can be found on the Frisco Fastpacs website at www.friscofastpacs.org.But there are other ways to help, including a wonderful volunteer activity created for children that we wanted to share with our FCA Frisco families and hopefully enlist the help of our FCA Frisco students.
With every meal bag provided Frisco Fastpacs include motivational cards they call “High Five” cards. Currently that’s around 1,200 cards a week! They need our help in creating uplifting messages for the children they serve. This is a great opportunity for our students at FCA Frisco to help out other children in these challenging times. If your students would like to help you will find more information about the program and how to participate below.
Messages should be created on 3x5 index cards, or thick construction paper. Heather Canterbury, Executive Director at Frisco Fastpacs sent me some examples of creative cards received this year and you can see these examples below. Students can use stickers and other decorations. Frisco Fastpacs do ask that cards and messages be non-religious and non-political.
Cards can either be dropped off or mailed to Frisco Fastpacs.
If dropping cards off:
Drop cards at their address below in the tub outside their door which says high five cards (note, due to coronavirus this process is different to that described on their website to follow social distancing protocols). Cards should be in a ziplock bag – include name of student, school attended and number of cards for credit.
If mailing cards:
Mail cards to the address below, again cards should be in a ziplock bag and the bag should include a sheet with the student’s name, school attended and number of cards for credit.
Volunteer Credit Hours:
10 cards equals one hour of volunteer work. If your student wishes to get officially credited for their volunteer hours a volunteer verification request must be sent to volunteer@friscofastpacs.org after submission of any cards made.
