FCAF Design A Bag Tag Competition

Calling all FCA Frisco Kindergarten to 5th Grade Budding Artists!

The Fine Arts Booster Club (FAB) is launching a competition to design our very own FCA Frisco bag tags! The winning design will be incorporated into tags that will be available for sale through the booster club and through school. These tags can be used on school bags, gym bags, lunch boxes and musical instrument bags. Proceeds from the sale of the tags will go towards the purchase of a kiln for our elementary school. Here’s what Ms. Holly Jo Camp had to say about why a kiln is the thing she most wants for her students when we talked with her about it this Spring:

ALL my students love working with clay. When I tell them “we’re working with clay today” they all shout and clap. There are so many fun projects you can do with clay. Also I believe having a kiln would broaden the students’ thinking – they would learn the stages of making items from basic clay to greenware to bisque firing to glazing and glaze firing. They would be able to follow the metamorphosis and understand how everyday things like dishes or mugs are made. Right now we use air dry clay for our clay projects. It is very fragile when dry and can very easily be broken. On the other hand kiln fired clay is much stronger and the things created with kiln fired clay will last for many years. Right now all too often our students’ air clay work gets broken in the process of trying to take it home. It breaks my heart when the kids’ work gets broken before it reaches home.”

Competition Guidelines:

All FCA Frisco Kindergarten through 5th grade students can enter the competition. Each student is allowed to enter one design. Designs must be all your own work, created on paper without the use of computer applications, clip art, third party or copyrighted materials. Designs should be geometric or abstract, created using our school colors, blue and gold. We are looking for a striking design that will really stand out on our tags! Designs should be created on solid, thick sketch book or drawing plain white plain paper, measuring 9 x 12 inches or 8.5 x 11.5 inches. You can use any medium to create your design - paint, markers, anything you like. If you use crayons or pencils make sure you do not draw lightly – to recreate your images on our tags they must be very clear – the bolder the better! Note also: do not incorporate any words into your design - just create your geometric or abstract work. When we create the bag tags we will add the school name and logo to the tags in the same way we did with the band and orchestra yard signs and stickers.

Entry submissions and any questions you have about the competition should be emailed to janesleeth@yahoo.com. Please send a high resolution image of your design and provide your name, age and grade in the email. Note: do NOT write this information on the front or back of your design!

Our winning designer will receive four bag tags and a Chick-fil-A gift card. We will also be selecting a winner for each school grade K through 5th and each grade winner will receive a prize. Dairy Queen are sponsoring this competition too so EVERY student who enters the competition will receive a coupon for a free DQ sundae!

Our esteemed judges will be Ms. Jennifer Richter, Mr. Benjamin Lyda and Ms. Melanie Sharpless.

Closing date for entries is Monday, 30th November. Winning entries will be announced during the first week of December.
