2019 ATSSB All-Region Auditions
The band students of FCA-Frisco recently attended their first ATSSB all region audition. They were full of excitement about the opportunity to skip out a little early from school, enjoy a lunch out, and play with friends. They quickly became anxious as they saw and heard talented performers from many wonderful schools in the area. For the majority of students at FCA-Frisco, this was their first competitive musical experience. And what a fantastic milestone it was for them!
As I watched the students warm up and practice, their trepidation was apparent. However, I observed an incredible show of teamwork as members practiced together, gave feedback, and offered encouragement to their band mates. Then bit-by-bit as they performed each of 3 audition pieces, you could see their confidence building with each one. It was heartwarming to see students exit their audition with exuberant smiles and return to their tables to receive high fives and applause from their fellow band members.
I learned some extraordinary things! First, most FCA-Students only picked up their instrument for the first time last school year at the inaugural start of FCA-Frisco. What an incredible accomplishment it is to say that 14 students from FCA-Frisco qualified to perform for the all-region symphonic or concert band. Wow!
Second, remember that our small school is just growing and we have a lot to do to to achieve the ideal, mature program we are working towards. Therefore, for our FCA-Frisco band students to obtain so many chairs while competing against larger, more developed programs was no small feat.
What a credit to the hard work of our students and musical department we are so blessed to have at FCA-Frisco. We are so proud of our Griffins! Way to go!
